SUBJECT:      Cancellation of SISA - 2020 Short Course Championships

Deferring of SISA 2020 Annual General Meeting

As we are all too well aware the impact of the COVID 19 virus has and is being been felt in every facet of our daily lives.  The impact of ‘social distancing’ measures imposed by both the Federal and State governments has brought an end to all sporting pursuits for the foreseeable future.

The SISA Management Committee at its’ meeting last night (Tuesday 24th March) officially cancelled the SISA Short Course Championships for 2020.   The possibility of a postponement till later in the winter season was discussed it was decided that this would be impracticable as with all pools in the SISA area closed swimmers would not be able to train.

The SISA Annual General Meeting (AGM) was also discussed and through consultation with Fair Trading NSW and under the provisions of the Incorporated Associations legislation the 2020 SISA AGM will be postponed till Saturday 26th September 2020.  When this new date approaches if SISA still cannot hold its’ AGM a formal application for a further extension of time will be submitted to Fair Trading NSW.

Having spoken to representatives from several SISA clubs in respect to the forthcoming AGM  I was not made aware of any urgent or current matters that needed to be discussed at the AGM level.  There were no plans to amend, alter or change the current SISA Constitution.  There were to be two (2) Management Committee vacancies up for election – President and Treasurer.  It has been agreed by all current SISA Management Committee members that they would remain in their current roles till such time as an AGM can be conducted.

The SISA Treasurer has advised that the financial affairs of SISA will still adhere to the SISA Constitution.  At the end of SISA’s financial year, 31st March 2020, our financial records will be forwarded for independent auditing.  SISA wishes to be open and transparent in our financial dealings and following this auditing process, and without first being tabled at an AGM, the ‘end of year’ financial statement of the Southern Inland Swimming Association will be made available to all clubs.

Looking toward the future I would ask all clubs wishing to host a meet in the 2020-2021 season to liaise with their Zone coordinator in determining a date.  So that when ‘social gathering’ restrictions are lifted SISA will ready to commence our swim meets.

Kindest regards

Tom Murphy
